Uncut Gems Gets Oscars Snub

Uncut Gems is a a film about a New York Diamond District jeweller -played by Adam Sandler- dealing in all manner of gems and jewellery for a large clientele in the hip hop and sports industries. He’s also a high stakes gambler with lots of creditors. Basically, the movie is all about how he maneuvers his way through the daily stresses his job and gambling bring into his and his family’s life. What’s so interesting about this movie is that you can get to see the action and behind-the-scenes of the jewellery world, how a piece of hip hop jewellery is commissioned, the sheer volume of Cuban link chains, tennis chains, iced out watches and iced out jewellery shown, and all that stuff in between. Plus, you can even get to see popular 47th Street jewelers you may know, who appear as extras.
Sadly, while the film is very interesting, the Academy Awards did not even acknowledge its existence when they were handing out nominations. Show the jewellery world some love and go see it! For more about the movie and its trailer, read on here.

You know the hip hop jewellery world is on the rise when you see not only male hip hop and rap artists flossing pieces, but also female artists and mainstream celebrities! Iconic celebrity Beyonce is the latest to sport these, as she teased the debut of her IVY PARK x Adidas collab. The superstar released a series of promotional videos for the upcoming athleisure clothing line and while the pieces all looked great and refreshing in hues of tangerine and maroon, what really caught our eye was the two grills she was seen flossing!
Designed by French jeweller, Dolly Cohen, the first grills feature a bottom set with “IVY PARK” gold grills covering six teeth while the second is a single-tooth Three Stripes logo.

Once again, Drake is on our main radar as he continues to make waves in the hip hop jewellery world! This time, Drake showed us his thoughtful and sensitive side as he gifted his close friend, A$AP Rocky with an iced out jewellery piece that’s also a tribute to the late rapper, A$AP Yams, A$AP Rocky’s fellow Mob member and friend, who died of an overdose back in 2015. The gift comes days before Yams Day 2020, an annual event in honor of the fallen A$AP Yams.
The gift is an iced out pendant that bears A$AP Yams likeness to a T, from his braids, facial birthmark, to his cheek tattoo. The pendant, which was commissioned by Drizzy to Jason of Beverly Hills, features 600 grams of gold, 15 carats of diamonds, and took over 3 months to make. Read on here for more!
