Starting off a new year was not the bang some hip hop personalities hoped for, according to several news that circulated last week. Who and what, let’s find out below on our weekly news roundup:
YG Lost Over $400k in Jewelry on New Year’s Eve Grand Theft Heist
Def Jam artist YG apparently celebrated New Year’s Eve $400k poorer in the precious jewellery department. The “Who Do You Love” rapper was staying at The London Hotel in West Hollywood during the New Year festivities, and he claimed that he placed all his jewellery in a briefcase on top of the room’s safe sometime between 11pm and 11 am the next day. He recounted that he noticed the briefcase was lighter the next day and opened it to discover the theft. YG didn't list any of the missing jewellery pieces, but we bet it's an assortment of hip hop jewellery pieces such as Cuban link chains, iced out watches or iced out jewellery!
YG reported the grand theft to the police on January 6, 2020, and police are still currently investigating on who the possible culprit/culprits might be through surveillance footage. However, they’re having quite a bit of a hard time as there were tons of people at YG’s room during the said night because of the New Year Eve’s festivities.

Beverly Hills Jeweller Sues Migos’ Offset for $47k Jewellery Debt
Reportedly starting the new year with a $47k in debt and being sued for it is Migos’ member, Offset. Popular Beverly Hills jeweller, Peter Marco of Extraordinary Jewels, filed a lawsuit on December 31, 2019, for the said amount, stating that the rapper bought a few pieces of bling amounting to $110k back in October of 2018, but only paid $63k, leaving a balance of $47k. The jeweller’s legal team sent a notice to the Migos member in early December with a demand for payment within seven days, but it looks like they didn’t receive payment, hence the lawsuit.
The lawsuit includes the Migos’ label rep, Quality Control Music COO, Kevin “Coach K” Lee. Coach K has since aired his side, read on for more here.
Drake Spends $1M on Heart Chain
Seemingly on a roll, Drake has copped himself another piece of splendid bling to start his new year with a bang! A connoisseur of iced out jewellery and Cuban link chains, The OVO mogul dropped $500k on a massive, 22-carat, platinum-plated diamond ring from Gemma Fine Jewelry back in November, and in keeping up with the heart theme, Drake dropped over $1M on this recent bling, which is also from Gemma Fine Jewelry. The chain features 100 carats and a series of heart-shaped pendants all around the chain, and reportedly took months to create.
